Will Provide Continued Logistics Support
Boeing tells ANN the company
recently earned a $307 million US Air Force contract extension to
continue providing logistics support and other services to the
nation's KC-10 Extender aerial refueling tanker fleet.
The current Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) contract expired
at the end of January. The extension allows Boeing KC-10 support to
continue uninterrupted until a new competitive contract is awarded
this summer. Boeing submitted its bid for that work in December
2007. Under the KC-10 CLS program, Boeing provides depot-level
maintenance and modifications, supply chain management and other
critical support tasks to the Air Force from its San Antonio,
Texas, facility.
"Boeing and its team offer the most experience available to work
on the KC-10," said Mike Wright, Boeing KC-10 program director. "We
continue to put that experience to work, providing readiness 24/7
to our nation's warfighters."
The Boeing-led KC-10 CLS team includes more than 450 suppliers
and partners who have supported the KC-10 Extender since it entered
service. The Boeing team has provided depot-level maintenance for
the fleet more than 700 times under the current CLS contract.
The Air Force operates nearly 60 KC-10 aircraft. Due to their
high operational tempo, the aircraft must be serviced regularly to
help satisfy mission requirements at home and abroad.
"We are committed to continuing our strong performance and
meeting our customer's needs without service interruptions that
could impact the readiness of the KC-10 and its support of the
Global War on Terror," said Wright.
