EAA’s Young Eagles Program To Keep Flying With Phillips 66 Support Beyond 2003

Largest Youth Aviation Program Ever

The EAA’s Young Eagles Program, which has become the largest youth aviation education program ever created, will continue beyond the flight centennial year of 2003 with the support of ConocoPhillips.
For the past decade, Phillips 66 Aviation brand has assisted pilots who have flown Young Eagles with fuel rebates and in recent years has recognized remarkable Young Eagles pilots through the Phillips 66 Aviation Leadership Awards. Since the Young Eagles Program began in July 1992, some 900,000 young people have received a free demonstration flight and discovered more about the world of aviation.

Continued Support

Phillips 66 Aviation will continue its support of Young Eagles beyond the original goal date of Dec. 17, 2003, the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first successful powered flight. EAA announced earlier this year that the program would continue past 2003 as a key program to bring young people into aviation.

“The enthusiasm for Young Eagles has never been higher than during this centennial year for flight,” said Steve Buss, Executive Director of the Young Eagles Program. “Pilots have faced many challenges in recent year, but continue to participate in the Young Eagles Program. One significant reason is the continuous support offered by Phillips 66 Aviation, which through its year-round fuel rebates program, have allowed pilots to fly many more young people through this all-volunteer effort.”

The Young Eagles Program remains on target to achieve its stated goal of flying one million young people by Dec. 17, 2003 - the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C. Young Eagles will participate in EAA’s festivities surrounding that anniversary at the Wright Brothers National Memorial.

“Phillips 66 Aviation brand has seen what the Young Eagles Program means for aviation,” said Mark Wagner, Phillips 66 Aviation manager. “While Young Eagles plants the seeds for the next generation of aviators, this program also means more aviation activity right now. These flights have brought more people to their local airports, more flights in every area of the country and more opportunities for pilots to enjoy their passion for flight. These positives and more make Young Eagles the type of program that Phillips 66 Aviation is proud and honored to support.”

It’s easy to participate in the Phillips 66 Aviation Young Eagles rebate program. Any EAA member, pilot or Chapter, or pilot from partner organizations authorized by the EAA Aviation Foundation, can participate in the rebate program. Fuel receipts or copies must be mailed, along with a signed statement confirming the fuel was used for the Young Eagles Program, to:

Only Phillips 66 Aviation issues the fuel rebates, not individual FBOs. Pilots may apply for the Phillips 66 credit card by calling 1-800-DO-APPLY (800-362-7759) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (Central Time) Monday through Friday, or through the Phillips 66 Aviation web site (http://aviation.phillips66.com).

“All of us who fly have a responsibility to help the next generation discover the possibilities open to them through flight,” Buss said. “Young Eagles helps make this possible, and Phillips 66 Aviation’s leadership role helps Young Eagles reach even more young people now and as we enter the second century of aviation.”
