NASA Announces Virginia Aeronautics Research Award

$1.2 Million Grant To Be Used Developing New Airspace Usage Algorithms

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate has awarded $1.2 million to George Mason University of Fairfax, VA for work described in its NASA research announcement proposal entitled "Market-based and Auction-based Models and Algorithms for En-route Airspace Allocation and Configuration."

Karla Hoffman is the principal investigator of the two year project.

The award, made by the directorate's Airspace Systems Program, will foster close collaboration with and facilitate the exchange of ideas and information among researchers at NASA, industry, academia, and other government agencies to benefit the nation's aeronautics community.

The Airspace Systems Program is responsible for developing concepts, capabilities and technologies for high-capacity, efficient and safe airspace and airport systems.

This work is to enable transformation to the Next Generation Air Transportation System, a multi-agency vision and plan to meet the challenges facing the USair transportation system by 2025.
