US Air Races Celebrate 75 Years
"Honor the Past. Invest in the
Future" is the theme for the US Air Race, Inc. celebration of the
sparkling 75th Diamond Anniversary of the 1929 National Air Races.
The teams in the exciting cross country Marion Jayne Air Race and
Cruise will fly from California to Cleveland. There will be a
California 300-mile and a Cleveland 300- mile Air Race.. Awards
will be made at the Cleveland National Air Show. These fabulous
flying events will be held from August 28 to September 6, 2004.
Participants will have the opportunity to fly in honor of a 1929
racer and/or dedicate an aviation youth scholarship at one of the
route stops.
As in 2003, teams may compete in cruise, speed and collegiate
divisions. Custom divisions are possible for five or more teams
such as all RVs, all Tigers or all Cirrus. All teams are eligible
for the prestigious Marion Jayne Perpetual Trophy.
The US Air Race, Inc. was founded by famed race pilot Marion
Jayne. She is the only US pilot to have raced twice around the
world. She placed second in the 1992 race and won the FAI Gold
Medal in 1994. Marion was just honored as one of the century"s 100
Aviation Heroes along with the Wrights, John Glenn, Eileen Collins
and others at the Centennial Celebration. Her personal success, her
two races around the world, her life before flying were cited as
well as her entrepreneurial spirit in founding 4 air races - three
of which are still run annually. The 2004 National Air Races honor
her memory and contributions. For more details see web
site.
The US Air Race is a charitable enterprise dedicated to the
sport of cross country flying and provides scholarships to young
people interested in aviation. Contributions are deductible to the
extent allowed by law.
