French LSA Manufacturer Establishes Toehold in Florida, Expands Home Facilities

Elixir Aircraft Rolls Out Additional Capacity

French sport plane manufacturer Elixir Aircraft announced a continuation of its never-ending production expansions, this time adding facilities in the US and France. The new location in France will see the addition of 10,700 square feet near Elixir's flagship location in La Rochelle, France. The new one will produce composite parts for the fuselage and flight control systems, nestled in the comfy little town of Aytré (who apparently offered a better deal for the new factory).

Classic Aero-TV: A 2011 LSA Q&A – What’s Missing From Today’s LSAs?

From 2011 (YouTube Version): The Third Question (of Five) Is Put Forth Among The Attendees of the 2011 US SAE

OK... three questions down, two to go... are you feeling better educated about LSAs yet? One of the most enjoyable interactions we at ANN and Aero-TV undertake at the dozens of events we attend is the chance to talk NOT with the newsmakers... but to those that the news we report on affects most... YOU. At the 2011 Sebring Sport Aviation Expo, we spent extra time asking the attendees a series of five questions... both to gauge the kind of interest that LSA holds for the aviation community as well as the strength of that interest.

NTSB Final Report: Hagerty Glasair Super IIS-TD

During The Climb, About 4,500 Ft Mean Sea Level, The Engine Began To Run Rough, And Shortly Thereafter Lost All Power

Analysis: The pilot reported that during the climb, about 4,500 ft mean sea level, the engine began to run rough, and shortly thereafter lost all power. The pilot immediately turned back toward the departure airport, which was about 5 miles from his position. He began troubleshooting the loss of power, but power was not restored. The pilot was able to glide to the airport; however, in a right turn to align with the runway, the pilot felt the onset of an aerodynamic stall. He leveled the wings, the airplane overshot the runway, descended abruptly, and impacted a grass area hard next to the runway.

Classic Aero-TV: The Legend Cub-‘Just a Little Bit Better than the Original Cub’

From 2015 (YouTube Version): Taking The Legendary Cub 'Metaphor' To New Heights!

During Sebring 2015, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, stopped by the Legend Aircraft Company to talk about their line of Cub-similar aircraft. He was fortunate to link up with Darren Hart, who is the owner of the company. Hart starts off by explaining their goal was to keep their aircraft easy to fly and similar to the original Piper Cub designs. They offer 3 models of aircraft, all of which qualify as an LSA. While their line of Legend Cubs pays tribute to the original, heart says they still looked for ways to stay true to the Cub but also offer some improvements.

NTSB Final Report: Alexander Schleicher GMBH & CO ASW 27-18

Prior To The Accident Flight, (Pilot) Had Not Flown In Over 90 Days

Analysis: The pilot of the glider reported that prior to the accident flight, he had not flown in over 90 days. The purpose of the accident flight was to refamiliarize himself with the tasking area of an upcoming soaring contest, with a general aim to stay within gliding distance of the departure gliderport. For about 2 hours, the pilot flew south of the gliderport at altitudes between 3,000 to 4,000 ft above ground level. He then encountered weaker soaring conditions and miscalculated his altitude by 300 ft due to a discrepancy between the glider’s primary altimeter and the altitude displayed on his GPS/moving map computer.

Sport Aviation Alliance Laying Groundwork for No-Holds-Barred Consumer Advocacy

Paul Poberezny's Lesser-Known Organizational Baby is In Good Hands

Paul Poberezny's work needs little introduction in the world of experimental aviation, sport flying, and hobbyist aeronautics, being attached to what has grown into a titan today. Sometimes, growth makes it easy to miss the little things, and today's "little guy" is smarting more than ever just looking at the price tags of "cheap" aircraft. Poberezny, seeing similar things while he was still with us, tried to forestall such a development, beginning the Sport Aviation Association, a group that centered itself entirely on the average everyday pilot. Now, a passionate group of industry vets have inherited the charter of Paul Poberezny's lesser-known organizational baby, and they're taking up his mission anew.
