AEA Urges Action To Set Aside FCC’s Ligado Order

'Would Upend Decades Of Sound Spectrum Policy'

On the one-year anniversary of the Federal Communications Commission’s Ligado Order, the Aircraft Electronics Association joined a broad coalition of nearly 100 organizations urging President Joe Biden’s administration and Congress to work with the FCC to ultimately set aside the flawed Ligado Order that, if left in place, would upend decades of sound spectrum policy, negatively impact a significant cross-section of commercial, federal, and academic users who rely on the many different L-band satellite services, and threaten the safety of most Americans.

NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter successfully completed its second Mars flight on Thursday – the 18th sol, or Martian day, of its experimental flight test window. Lasting 51.9 seconds, the flight added several new challenges to the first, which took place on April 19, including a higher maximum altitude, longer duration, and sideways movement.

Ford Tri-Motor Begins 2021 National Tour in April

The Tour Will Continue Into The Summer, With The Tri-Motor Returning To Oshkosh In July

The Liberty Aviation Museum's 1928 Ford Tri-Motor 5-AT-B will return for a full EAA national tour in 2021 after the COVID pandemic halted operations in 2020. The first portion of the 2021 tour schedule includes a stop in Illinois before the aircraft heads south to Kentucky and Tennessee. The tour will continue into the summer, with the Tri-Motor returning to Oshkosh for the full week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh on July 26-August 1. EAA's Ford Tri-Motor 4-AT-E is currently undergoing continued restoration and maintenance and will not be touring this season.

On Tuesday, a second F-15EX fighter aircraft was delivered to the U.S. Air Force earlier than the contract requirement. The result of a collaboration across industry, the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard, the F-15EX is a ready-now replacement for the F-15C that includes best-in-class payload, range and speed and an all-new digital infrastructure. “Moving from contract award to delivery in a matter of months enables the U.S. Air Force to get a head start on flight testing and demonstrates our commitment to exceeding expectations,” said Prat Kumar, Boeing vice president and F-15 program manager.

Richard Harper Entered A Guilty Plea To One Count Of Attempted Aircraft Parts Fraud

The FAA proposes to revoke the repair station certificate of Apple International Inc., of Bristol, Tenn. The FAA alleges that Apple’s owner instructed employees to remove the identification plate from one Bell Helicopter and put it on a different Bell Helicopter without the approval of the FAA. Changing the aircraft’s identification plate had the effect of misrepresenting the identity of the aircraft to potential purchasers. Additionally, Apple’s owner pleaded guilty in September 2020 to attempted aircraft-parts fraud. NTSB Prelim: Piper PA28R

While Turning From Base Toward Final, The Engine Sustained A Total Loss Of Engine Power

On April 17, 2021, about 1948 central daylight time, a Piper PA-28R-200 airplane, N2973R, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near McKinney, Texas. The flight instructor and student pilot sustained minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The airplane departed from the Rockwall Municipal Airport (F46), Rockwall, Texas, at 1934 and was flying in the traffic pattern at the McKinney National Airport (TKI), McKinney, Texas. While turning from base toward final, the engine sustained a total loss of engine power.

AD 2021-09-04 Prompted By Reports Of An Oil Pump Blockage On E4 Model Diesel Piston Engines

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Austro Engine GmbH E4 and E4P model diesel piston engines. This AD was prompted by reports of an oil pump blockage on E4 model diesel piston engines. This AD requires replacing a certain oil pump as well as the oil filter and engine oil. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective May 10, 2021.
