National Air and Space Museum Receives $5 Million Gift For Wright Exhibit

David M. Rubenstein Funds New Wright Brothers Gallery Anticipated To Open in 2022

The Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum has received $5 million from David M. Rubenstein in support of the newly redesigned "The Wright Brothers & the Invention of the Aerial Age" exhibition. The gift will contribute to the safe preservation and display of the 1903 Wright Flyer, one of the Smithsonian's iconic artifacts and the centerpiece of the gallery. The redesign of the exhibition is part of the museum's ongoing transformation of all its galleries in the flagship building in Washington, D.C., and is scheduled to open in 2022.

2019 Accident Involved DHC-2 Beaver And A Float-Equipped DHC-3 Turbine Otter

The National Transportation Safety Board has announced its intent to hold a public board meeting April 20, 2021, 0930 Eastern time, to determine the probable cause of a fatal midair collision involving two air tour operators in Alaska. On May 13, 2019, a float-equipped de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver and a float-equipped de Havilland DHC-3 Turbine Otter collided in flight about eight miles northeast of Ketchikan, Alaska. The DHC-2 pilot and four passengers suffered fatal injuries; the DHC-3 pilot suffered minor injuries, nine passengers were seriously injured, and one passenger suffered fatal injuries.

Coast Guard, Navy Air Assets Rescue Overdue Boater Off Oahu

The Hercules Crew Reported Seeing Debris In The Area

Coast Guard and Navy crews rescued the “Size No Matter” overdue boater Friday 26-miles west of Ka'ena Point. A Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter aircrew located the boater at 1:30 a.m. holding a bundle of life jackets. The aircrew hoisted the boater and transported him to Queens Medical Center due to having symptoms of hypothermia. “I am extremely proud of the way my Sailors and the entire ‘EasyRider’ team worked together to render aid during this search and rescue,” said Navy Cmdr. Matthew Martin, HSM-37’s Commanding Officer.  “Working side-by-side with the Coast Guard was key in our ability to locate and rescue the fisherman.”

When She Saw The Airplane, It Was “Tilted To The Left” As It Descended Into The Trees

On March 4, 2021, about 1510 eastern standard time, a Beech C-23, N67013, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Purcellville, Virginia. The private pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to a witness, she heard the airplane take off from runway 19 at Krens Farm Airport (14VA), Hillsboro, Virginia, and looked back to watch it depart. When she saw the airplane, it was “tilted to the left” as it descended into the trees. She heard the engine the entire time and stated that it made “traditional engine noises.” In
