It was not the best of days for the team at Virgin Orbit, but it was an educational one. After having to scrub a launch attempt on Sunday, May 24th, due to sensor issues, the VO team, finally had the chance to launch a rocket from the belly of their 747 carrier aircraft, 'Cosmic Girl' on Memorial Day. However, while they finally had the chance to release a rocket in real life, things went bad shortly thereafter. FAA Has Issued Multiple NOTAMS For The Wednesday Launch

The FAA has issued multiple Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS) Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) around Cape Canaveral, Fla., through Wednesday, May 27, 2020. The NOTAMS are in preparation for NASA’s historic manned space flight to the International Space Station aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule. This the first launch of astronauts to Earth orbit on an American-built spacecraft from American soil since 2011. The FAA’s role is to ensure the safety of the airspace by prohibiting all aircraft operations within 30 nautical miles of NASA’s Kennedy Space Center during the reported timeframe unless the operation is exempted. After several years of engineering milestones and flight testing, Waco Aircrtaft has announced issuance of full FAA Certification on the WACO YMF-5F, the new-production open cockpit biplane on amphibious floats. Total Sales Exceed $660 Million In First Three Months Of 2020 -- 8.8% Down Over 1Q/19

The Aircraft Electronics Association released its first-quarter 2020 Avionics Market Report. In the first three months of the year, total worldwide business and general aviation avionics sales amounted to $660,428,548.41, or more than $660 million as reported by the participating companies. The figure represented an 8.8% decrease in total sales compared to the first-quarter 2019 amount of $724,168,387.64, or more than $724 million. On May 8, 2020, about 2050 central daylight time, a Beechcraft 1900C, N31704, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near San Antonio, Texas. AD 2020-11-07 Addreses Report Of Non-Conforming Main Rotor (M/R) Hub Lead-Lag Bolts

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for MD Helicopters Inc., (MDHI) Model 369D, 369E, 369FF, 369H, 369HE, 369HM, 369HS, 500N, and 600N helicopters. This AD was prompted by a report of non-conforming main rotor (M/R) hub lead-lag bolts (bolts). This AD requires removing certain bolts from service. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective June 30, 2020.
