Our top story today comes out of the UK’s London Gatwick Airport. Where details of drone sightings seems to get stranger by the day. It all started on the evening of December 20th--when the runway at London's Gatwick airport was closed due to drone sightings by airport staff members. Police arrested two suspects on the suspicion of disrupting civil aviation-but were later forced to release the two after an investigation found they did not have enough evidence to hold them. Despite numerous reports there is little evidence that a drone caused this... The FAA has posted a notice in the Federal Register soliciting qualified candidates to serve on the Drone Advisory Committe

International Launch Customer Qatar Executive Continues Expansion Of Gulfstream Fleet

Gulfstream recently made the first international deliveries of the clean-sheet, record-breaking Gulfstream G500. Qatar Airways received two G500 aircraft at Gulfstream’s Savannah headquarters. The aircraft will join the five Gulfstream G650ER aircraft already in service with Qatar Executive, the airline’s executive charter business.

Government Shutdown Means Hiring & Training Delays, Worsening Current Air Traffic Controller Staffing Crisis

Because of the federal government shutdown, the FAA has closed its training academy in Oklahoma City where new air traffic controller hires go to begin their careers, according to NATCA. In addition, classroom and simulator training at air traffic control facilities also is suspended during this shutdown. Along with 3,000 other aviation safety professionals represented by NATCA, many new hires who have recently graduated from the academy and begun working at their first air traffic control facility are furloughed, their critical training halted along with their pay.
