Boeing on Wednesday celebrated the 50th delivery of a 747-8. Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the launch customer of the passenger version, took delivery of the milestone aircraft almost one year after the first revenue flight of the 747-8 Intercontinental. It is the airline's seventh 747-8 and its 82nd 747.

The International Lunar Observatory Association (ILOA), based in Hawaii and led by American businessman and educator Steve Durst, has unveiled flight test hardware for the first private telescope that will be launched to the Moon in 2015. Designed and built under contract from ILOA by Silicon Valley-based Moon Express, Inc., the International Lunar Observatory precursor (ILO-X) will capture never-before-seen images of the Galaxies, Stars, Planets, Moon and Earth.

Cessna 172, CRJ-200 Sims Purchased From Frasca International

Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale has taken delivery of three new Flight Training Devices (FTDs) from Frasca International. The new FTDs include two Cessna 172R FTDs and a CRJ-200 Level 5 FTD. SIU also had their their existing Frasca 172R FTD upgraded to have the same features as the two new 172R devices.

Sonar data recorded last summer by the research vessel Niku VII being operated by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) may point to the remains of Amelia Earhart's Lockheed Electra on the bottom of the ocean near Gardner Island, which is now known as Nikumaroro.

Asteroid 1998 QE2 Flies Close To Earth On Friday

Body Is About Nine Times The Size Of A Cruise Ship, No Threat To Earth

On Friday, May 31 at 1359 PDT (1659 EDT), Asteroid 1998 QE2 will cruise 3.6 million miles from Earth, approximately 15 times the distance between the moon and Earth. The distance of the asteroid is not particularly impressive as it will not be especially close. But what it lacks in distance it compensates for in size. At about 1.6 miles across, Asteroid 1998 QE2 is roughly the length of nine Queen Elizabeth II cruise ships.
