FAA Approves Bristow Group ADS-B Out Solution In Sikorsky S-76 Helicopters

System Based Around FreeFlight Systems' GPS/WAAS Sensor

The FAA has granted an STC for a rule-compliant 1090 MHz extended squitter (1090ES) ADS-B Out system for Sikorsky S-76C+ and S-76C++ helicopters to helicopter service provider Bristow Group. The STC includes a FreeFlight Systems 1201 GPS/WAAS sensor as the high-integrity position source integrated with a Mode S transponder.

The FAA is expected to make a decision by March 18 whether to close Florida's Lakeland Linder Regional Airport tower due to the effects of sequestration. But closure of the tower would not necessarily mean there would be no air traffic control for the annual Sun 'n' Fun fly-in scheduled for early April.

GE Aviation has achieved a major program milestone with the delivery of its initial production wing fixed trailing edge components for the first A350 XWB to fly – ‘MSN001’. The first A350 XWB-MSN001 is now structurally complete and is currently undergoing ground testing in Toulouse. The A350 XWB wing fixed trailing edge package is the largest production contract awarded in GE Aviation Hamble’s 75-year history.

According to the board's factual report on the accident, the pilot held a commercial rating, and he had two other people on board.

Cessna's new TTx completed its first production flight on Saturday, March 2. The single engine composite aircraft departed from the Cessna facility in Independence, KS, and performed the flight in and around southeast Kansas. "The TTx performed exceptionally well," said Brian Steele, business leader for the TTx. "In the course of the flight, the pilot took the aircraft to 17,000 feet, and achieved a speed of 213 kts.

AgustaWestland and Kanematsu Corporation have been awarded a contract by the Japan National Police Agency (JNPA) to supply a GrandNew law enforcement light twin helicopter which will be operated in Kawagawa prefecture located in the southern Kanto region of Japan. The order brings to three the number of GrandNew helicopters ordered by the Japan National Police Agency as part of their plan to modernise its fleet.
