The 21-year-old Arkansas woman started skydiving back in May, and was on her first solo jump two months ago when the unthinkable happened: her parachutes -- that's plural, both the main and the reserve -- failed to open fully. Her instructor caught the whole horrifying ordeal on tape as she spiraled to the ground, before landing face-down at 50 miles per hour in the airport parking lot.

Embraer Delivers First E190 Jet To Air Canada

Air Canada has announced it has received its first Embraer 190, becoming the first airline in North America to receive two different E-Jet models. According to Embraer, eventually the carrier will fly as many as 45 of the larger 190s, which will feature seating for 93 passengers in two classes -- 20 more than the 175s the carrier also operates. Air Canada is expected to receive its last 175 in January 2006.

As we reported earlier in Aero-News, both Boeing and Airbus have been awaiting word on the decision by Australian-based airline Qantas on whose plane the airline was going to select to add to its growing fleet -- and how many. Well, the suspense is over, as Qantas announced Wednesday they have placed 45 firm orders for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, with options for 20 more and purchase rights for another 50 aircraft on top of that.

Carrier Hopes To Emerge From Bankruptcy By End Of Year

Earlier this week, representatives from Aloha Airlines told Aero-News members of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Council 70 have ratified their new contract, joining the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) and three other collective bargaining units in finalizing agreements with the Hawaiian carrier. Aloha hopes to emerge from bankruptcy protection by December 15, 2005 -- less than one year after the company filed for Chapter 11.
