F-16 Attacks Patriot Battery

Monday Afternoon Attack Leads to Investigation

F-16s are on our side; so are Patriot missiles. At least, that's what we're told, and what we assume our fighting men are told, too; however, yesterday, an F-16 had a case of mistaken identity with a Patriot installation. Here's the official report:

"During combat air operations at approximately 7:40 a.m. EST Monday, a U.S. F-16 fighter engaged a U.S. Patriot battery approximately 30 miles south of An-Najaf, Iraq. No soldiers were injured by the strike.

"The F-16 pilot executed the strike against the Patriot while en-route to a mission near Baghdad. The incident is under review to ensure the future safety of the Patriot crews and aircrews."

There has been no official word regarding casualties or damage.
