EAA's Fantasy Flight Camps Offer Spirit Flying, B-17 Rides and Training

EAA's Fantasy Flight Camps, scheduled as soon as October, are the way for you to learn about some classics: learn about the EAA's B-17 and its systems, from authentic manuals, in a comprehensive ground school. Then climb aboard that glorious Aluminum Overcast and freeze your butt off, and have the time of your life doing it, because you'll know what you're doing!

If you'd rather go a bit farther back in history, you can actually book time (after a similarly-comprehensive ground school) in the EAA's Spirit of St. Louis replica, NX211, which is as faithful to the original as a two-place airplane could be. That ol' Ryan will teach you a thing or two about what Mr. Lindbergh must have gone through, 76 years ago.

[Insurance won't let you take off or land the Spirit; and it keeps you from actually flying the bomber at all; but the experience is one that not too many people have ever had -- and it's a whole lot more than you'll learn, looking at these machines, on the ground! --ed.]

Sean Elliott, EAA's Director of Flight Operations (and NAFI President), is the principal instructor for the camps, which include your materials, lodging, and meals, and are hosted in Oshkosh (WI). If you've never been to Oshkosh except during "the week," you'll marvel at how pretty the town is, and how light the traffic is!

Comments from former participants:

  • "Extremely professional and presentations both informative and humorous. Overall an excellent course, a very rewarding lifetime experience."
  • "The course was very interesting, even to one who has been in the center of the aircraft engineering field since the time that the engines used in this case were in production."
  • "Very enjoyable and educational"
  • "Extremely pleased, great experience, very good handouts, helpful people."
  • "It was better than I thought it would be. The instructors were especially good and cooperative."
  • "Food was excellent . . . I really enjoyed the museum tour."
  • "Very, very well done. Gives blend of history, operation and introduction to ground school."

If you need more information, the EAA's Scott Maher has it: 920-426-6282.
