First Fokker F27 Flight 55 Years Ago This Week

Over 700 Of The Aircraft Have Been Built

Fifty-Five years ago on November 24th 1955, the first prototype of the Fokker F27, with registration PH-NIV, made its maiden flight.

Aer Lingus Fokker F27

A few years later, in November 1958 the first production model, the F27-100, was delivered to Aer Lingus which could seat 44 passengers. Up to 1987 several versions of the aircraft have been built and known as the F27 Friendship. The most well know type is the F27-500, which could seat 52 passengers and was equipped with Dart 7 Mk 532 engines.

Over time, a total of 786 aircraft have been built, for 168 customers in 63 countries. This makes the F27 the best ever sold passenger turboprop aircraft. In the early 1980's, Fokker developed its successor, the Fokker 50. Today the F27 still flies with over 15 operators across the world.
