First Completed Texas Sport Cub Displayed At Lakeland

Father/Daughter Team 'Kwikbuilt' Plane

Texas Sport Aircraft Company announced this week the recent completion of the first-sold Texas Sport aircraft kit. The aircraft was flown to Lakeland, FL and is on display in the American Legend Aircraft Company booth at Sun 'n Fun Fly-In from April 8-13.

The Texas Sport is an amateur-built derivative of the American Legend Cub, the #1 selling American-made light-sport aircraft, and #2 overall.

The first Texas Sport aircraft kit was sold in August 2007, to Rand Siegfried of Palo Alto, CA. Siegfried also opted for the KwikBild program, which provides builders with the opportunity to complete their aircraft in as little as 21 days of fabrication under the supervision of experienced builders at the factory in Sulphur Springs.

Rand Siegfried is a recreational pilot with much of his experience coming in classic and twin engine aircraft such as the Beech 18 Twin Beech, Beech 55 Baron, Piper PA-20 Pacer, and Ford Trimotor, a.k.a. The Tin Goose. Siegfried owns a 1954 Beech 18, a 1968 Beech 55, and now a 2008 Texas Sport Cub.

Siegfried is also an EAA Lifetime Member and a current EAA Class 1 Director. He frequently flies a Trimotor giving rides at EAA events.

Siegfried proudly noted he first soloed in a Cub and, perhaps more significantly, he purchased the kit as a gift for his 16-year-old daughter, McKinley. The premise being that he would able to spend the build time with his daughter, while ensuring the project would be completed in a realistic timeframe.

"After building the Cub at the factory with McKinley, we feel a part of the family there," Siegfried said. "What a great group of guys who are so willing to share their vast experience -- what a way to learn. I couldn't imagine that I was building something that was actually going to fly. Watching it fly was one of the most amazing things to ever happen to me, unforgettable."

The result of the project for the father and daughter is a fun and practical airplane that both can enjoy. McKinley will make use of the plane as she completes her private pilot license.
