Airbus Gets Big Boost From Singapore Airlines

Orders A350XWB... And More A380s

It took a couple of days, but it seems at least some airlines are coming around to Airbus's way of thinking about the new and improved A350. Asian giant Singapore Airlines says it's placed an order for 20 A350 XWB aircraft, and added to its initial order for  the super-jumbo A380 by ordering nine more of them.

It also has options to buy 20 more A350s... and six A380s. The airline will take delivery of the planes starting in 2008.

Despite the large order for Airbus planes, Singapore isn't putting all its eggs in one basket, however... as Aero-News reported last month, it's also buying 20 of Boeing's 787-9 Dreamliner variants.

Airbus announced its redesign of the A350 at last week's Farnborough Air Show near London.

What does the EADS subsidiary say about this latest order from Singapore? As you might imagine, Airbus is pretty happy... with sales chief John Leahy calling it a "re-endorsement" of Singapore's faith in the A380,  in the face of recent news of a second six-month delay in deliveries.
