Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six And Lance Added To STC List For Micro Vortex Generators

How S-l-o-w Can You Go?

Micro AeroDynamics has added the 260 and 300 hp Cherokee Six and Lance to their growing list of single engine aircraft that can now be retrofitted with an array of vortex generators.  Utilizing an FAA approved STC, Cherokee Six/Lance owners can now attach 86 of the diminutive vortex generators across the span of their wings just above the leading edge. Another 24 VGs are mounted along the vertical stabilizer and 72 go under the leading edge of the stabilator.

While the vortex generators have no affect on the high speed performance of the Cherokee Six/Lance, and do not collect ice in freezing conditions, they do have a significant impact on slow speed flight, lowering stall speed by ten percent and enhancing controllability.

The kits, which can be applied in one day, include mounting templates for positioning the VGs, detailed instructions and drawings, required tools, and Loctite Depend adhesive.

The VGs are curved to fit the surface of the wing and stabilator and spares are included with the kit. The VGs, which measure 1/4 inch high and an inch long, are made of aircraft grade 6063-T6 aluminum and are alodined to a Boeing mil-spec, ready for painting.  The factory will paint them to match owners¹ base color paint for an additional $100.

Vortex generators create wind vortices that keep the boundary layer attached to the flying surfaces at higher angles of attack allowing for positive aileron control at reduced speeds. The kit price for the Piper Cherokee Six 260 and 300 models is $1,450, plus shipping and handling.
