South Korea Used Video Game Footage To Market Fighter Jet

Use Of The Footage Was Not Authorized By The Game Companies

A marketing video shown by the South Korean military to build interest in its Kai KF-X fighter jet was impressive ... but also fake and some footage was illegally used.

Engadget reports that the video produced and shown since 2015 contains footage from the video games Battlefield 3 and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. To make matters worse, the government did not get the permission of the video game producers to use the footage when it produced the video, which cost South Korean taxpayers some $40,000.

Once the news went public, the quickly admitted that the clips had been plagiarized and agreed to stop using the footage to promote the airplane.

But nobody is admitting culpability. The military says the company that made the video was a fault, while the video producers say that both the Agency for Defense Development and Korea Aerospace Industries had final say over the content before it was released.

The video may land one or all of the parties involved in a legal quagmire, which would drive up the cost of the airplane.

There has been no comment from the producers of the video games, according to Engadget.
