Twin Beech 18 Society Publishes 'Beech 18: A Civil & Military History'

New Book by Robert K. Parmerter Brings to Life The Historic Beechcraft Model 18 Airplane

The Twin Beech Society, a special interest group of the Staggerwing Museum Foundation, Inc. of Tullahoma, Tennessee, announces the availability of a new large format book on the historic Beechcraft Model 18 airplane, Beech 18: A Civil & Military History by Robert K. Parmerter, an expert on civil and military Beech 18 history.

Containing 567 pages, 275,000 words and more than 730 (350 in color) photographs, the $69.95 'Beech 18' offers the most in-depth account of this ageless aircraft outlining a long and varied service life of close to 70 years. The book specifies, details and illustrates the 12 civil models and 50 military variants as well as the conversions completed by 70 modification companies. Personal accounts from pilots, crew and owners add color to the technical history.

Robert K. Parmerter is historian of the Twin Beech Society and in 1999 was presented with the Society's first Merit Award for his efforts to preserve the history of the Twin Beech and his work on the exhibits at the Museum in Tullahoma. He has been an historian of the Twin Beech Model 18 since 1970. He has accumulated an exhaustive collection of information and photographs over the course of 33 years. This collection combined with his detailed research and fact checking comprises the bulk of the information and photographs in Beech 18: A Civil and Military History. Mr. Parmerter lives in Schenevus, New York with his wife Dorothy. They have two grown children, Mark and Brad.

The Twin Beech 18 Society is dedicated to the preservation of the Beech 18 aircraft and operates as a special interest group of the Staggerwing Museum Foundation, Inc. of Tullahoma, Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and exhibiting Beechcraft Staggerwing and Model 18 airplanes in its expansive facility in Tullahoma, TN. The Twin Beech 18 Society was founded in 1994 as an effort to preserve the Beech Model 18 and its civil and military history.
