Rolls-Royce’s first all-electric aircraft, the “Spirit of Innovation”, has completed its maiden flight, which took place in the UK for about 15 minutes. The beginning of the flight testing phase includes a collection of performance data on its electrical power and propulsion system. FAA Invites Public Comment For Draft Environmental Review For SpaceX Program

Public Hearing To Take Place October 6 and 7  

The FAA invites the public to provide its input on the draft environmental review for the proposed SpaceX Starship/Super Heavy program in Boca Chica, Texas. The Draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment investigates the potential environmental impacts of SpaceX’s initial mission profile for the program, including launch and reentry. It also reviews debris recovery, the integration tower and other launch-related construction, and local road closures in Boca Chica, among other issues. A public hearing is planned virtually for October 6 and 7 as part of a 30-day public comment period that will conclude on October 18.

Media Reports Insist That Feds May Indict Former Boeing Test Pilot Over 787 MAX

No Details On Alleged Charges Have Been Released

Federal prosecutors are preparing to indict a former Boeing test pilot suspected of misleading aviation regulators over the safety issues blamed for two fatal 737 MAX crashes, The Wall Street Journal, as well as a number of other media outlets, reported Thursday -- citing people familiar with the matter. It would, says the Journal, "be the first attempt to hold a Boeing employee accountable" for conduct before the two crashes. According to the Journal, Mark Forkner was Boeing’s 737 MAX chief technical pilot during the development of the aircraft and was the lead contact between Boeing and the FAA over how pilots should be trained to fly the planes.

Merlin Labs shares that the certification basis for its takeoff to touchdown autonomy system has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand in collaboration with the FAA. Merlin is now the first company to reach an agreement on an approach for the certification of aircraft autonomy, according to a media release. Following a crawl, walk, run approach, this system incorporates an onboard safety pilot who will continue to act as legal pilot in command.

Reported That Pilot Announced That He Was Returning To The Airport Due To A Canopy Problem

On September 3, 2021, about 1016 eastern daylight time, an amateur-built Klapp KR2S airplane, N729PK, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Wadsworth Municipal Airport (3G3), Wadsworth, Ohio. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Automatic Dependent Surveillance–Broadcast (ADS-B) data indicated that the airplane took off from runway 20 at 3G3 at 1011. The airplane proceeded to the southwest after takeoff.
