NTSB has issued an investigative update for its ongoing investigation of the fatal, Jan. 26, 2020, helicopter crash near Calabasas, California. NTSB: Airplane Made 'Popping' Sound Prior To Impact In Utah Accident

Preliminary Report Includes Statements From Witnesses

In a preliminary report from an accident which occurred on January 15, the NTSB says several witnesses reported hearing a "popping" noise coming from Cessna T-310P prior to it entering a steep nose-down attitude and impacting terrain near Roy, Utah. The commercial pilot was fatally injured in the accident. No flight plan was filed for the local flight that originated from Skypark Airport (KBTF), Bountiful, Utah, at 1500 and was destined for Ogden Airport in Ogden, Utah (KOGD).
