'Rescue Miss Pick Up from Loch Ness!' is the rallying cry for a project on GoFundme that is trying to keep one of the few remaining PBY Catalinas flying...the bird had to make an emergency landing in, of all places, Loch Ness. Miss Pick Up is the name of one of the world's few airworthy Catalina flying boats and is currently operated by Plane Sailing based in Duxford, Cambridge. Miss Pick Up ran into engine problems while operating on Loch Ness on Saturday, October 17th. RNLI Loch Ness helped them secure the aircraft following engine troubles and assisted in towing the aircraft to safety. Seamax Aircraft, has launched their long-awaited company

EAA's B-17 Aluminum Overcast is officially back in action after a successful stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last weekend that saw 109 prospective riders pre-book and 14 total flights, despite tricky weather on Friday in partnership with EAA Chapter 33. "I can tell you that the unseasonably cold temperatures, in the 30s each day, did not deter our visitors from coming off of the airplane smiling ear to ear from their recent experience," EAA Manager of Air Tours Kristy Busse said. Vehicle Deploys Satellites for Planet, Canon Electronics

Rocket Lab has successfully launched its 15th Electron mission and deployed Earth-imaging satellites for Planet and Spaceflight Inc. customer Canon Electronics. The mission was Rocket Lab’s fifth for this year, making Electron the second-most frequently flown US launch vehicle in 2020. The ‘In Focus’ mission launched from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 on New Zealand’s Mahia Peninsula at 21:21 UTC, 28 October 2020. The Electron launch vehicle successfully deployed ten commercial small satellites to a 500km circular orbit, bringing the total number of payloads deployed by Rocket Lab to 65.

The AMA Foundation has received a bequest of more than $171,000 to support the National Model Aviation Museum. The AMA and AMA Foundation would like to thank the family of Herbert Bone for his generous estate gift. Herbert is a Heritage and Legacy Society member of the AMA Foundation. Herbert had a lifelong passion for model aviation, trains, and Disney, specifically Mickey Mouse. He was a United States Army Veteran and a loving husband, father, and family member. Herbert was loved by his family, friends, and community, was an active member of the Boeing Hawks RC Club, and was a long time member of the Marymoor MARCs (1970’s-2020).

Navy Awards Sikorsky Contract To Build Six More CH-53K Heavy Lift Helicopters

The Six Helicopters Are Part Of 200 Aircraft Program Of Record

The CH-53K has flown more than 2,000 flight hours validating the aircraft's performance, including testing on a ship and in both hot and cold environments. This year, the helicopter completed air-to-air refueling with a 27,000-lb. external load demonstrating its ability to enable heavy-lift transport from sea to shore. Sikorsky will build six additional production CH-53K King Stallion helicopters under a new contract for the US Navy. The aircraft will further support the U.S. Marine Corps in its mission to conduct expeditionary heavy-lift assault transport of armored vehicles, equipment and personnel to support distributed operations deep inland from a sea-based center of operations.

CFI And Student Pilot Reported That They Conducted Two Uneventful Touch And Go Landings

On October 17, 2020, about 1742 Pacific daylight time, a Piper PA-28-140 airplane, N4673R, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near the Pierce County Airport – Thun Field (PLU), Puyallup, Washington. The certified flight instructor (CFI), one student, and one passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 instructional flight. The CFI and student pilot reported that they conducted two uneventful touch and go landings.

AD: General Electric Company Turbofan Engines

AD 2020-22-02 Requires Removal Of The HMU And Its Replacement With A Part Eligible For Installation

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all General Electric Company (GE) CF6-80C2A5F, -80C2B1F, -80C2B2F, -80C2B4F, -80C2B5F, -80C2B6F, -80C2B6FA, -80C2B7F, -80C2B8F, -80C2D1F, -80C2K1F, -80C2L1F, -80E1A2, -80E1A3, -80E1A4, and -80E1A4/B model turbofan engines with a certain hydromechanical unit (HMU) installed. This AD was prompted by a report of fuel coking of the HMU fuel metering valve (FMV) electro-hydraulic servo valves (EHSV) resulting in tailpipe fire. This AD requires removal of the HMU and its replacement with a part eligible for installation. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

AD 2020-22-19 Requires Initial And Recurring Inspections Of The Main Rotor (M/R) Blade Spindle Cuff

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for various restricted category helicopters, originally manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation (Sikorsky), Model EH-60A, HH-60L, S-70, S-70A, S-70C, S-70C(M), S-70C(M1), and UH-60A. This AD requires initial and recurring inspections of the main rotor (M/R) blade spindle cuff for a crack. This AD was prompted by multiple reports of a cracked M/R blade spindle cuff. These actions are intended to prevent an unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective December 3, 2020.
