EAA Chapter 534 Resurrects A Downtrodden Trainer

By Ted Luebbers, EAA Chapter 534 P.I.O. It all started about a year ago, in 2019, when a 1964 Cessna 150 D was donated to the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 534 in Leesburg, Florida. Some people thought that the plane had come to the end of its useful life, but others looked at it and said, “this can be rebuilt but it will cost a lot." The aircraft when viewed from 50 feet away didn’t look too bad. It was only when you got close to it that you began to see some of the major work that needed to be done. As someone said, “it had good bones." Structurally it was sound with little or no corrosion but cosmetically it needed to be cleaned up and thoroughly chec

Aero-News: Quote of the Day (10.20.20)

“The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft will make its first TAG attempt at gathering at least 2 ounces regolith from the asteroid Bennu. Since Bennu is so far away, the operators on the ground will issue instructions to the software, and then it will autonomously approach Bennu and extend its robotic arm, called the Touch-And-Go Sample Acquisition Mechanism (TAGSAM). The solar panels will pull back safely away so they can’t touch Bennu’s surface, and the Natural Feature Tracking system will enable the spacecraft to pull back before the spacecraft is in danger of colliding with a hazardous area of the 'Nightingale' landing site, which while our best option for gather surface material, is surrounded by massive mission-ending boulders.” Sou
