Tecnam has confirmed the certification of the P92 Echo MkII light aircraft to the new German 600kg rules, the latest version of the EASA Basic Regulation that now allows for 600kg MTOW Ultralight (UL) aircraft under the control of the CAAs of the member states. Germany is the first country to declare the opt-out, implementing the new-regulation German 600kg technical LTFUL 2018 rules. It is also the first country to develop and publish the necessary airworthiness requirements for these aircraft, delegating the certification process to the DULV (Deutscher Ultraleichtflugverband e.V.) agency. Designations Were Presented By The Commander of Naval Air Forces, Vice Adm. DeWolfe Miller III

Film producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actor Tom Cruise became the U.S. Navy’s 35th and 36th Honorary Naval Aviators, respectively, during a brief ceremony held at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles Sept. 24. The designations were presented by the Commander of Naval Air Forces, Vice Adm. DeWolfe Miller III, prior to a screening of Top Gun: Maverick, which is scheduled to premiere on July 2, 2021.  As honorary Naval Aviators, Bruckheimer and Cruise are authorized to wear the “wings of gold” of a U.S. naval aviator and are entitled to all honors, courtesies and privileges afforded to Naval Aviators.

Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions, Inc. (Eve) has been launched as a new, independent company dedicated to accelerating the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) ecosystem. Eve is developing a full portfolio of solutions to enable the UAM market and ultimately benefit people's lives, including the progression and certification of the company's electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (eVTOL), the associated comprehensive services and support network, and the creation of urban air traffic management solutions. André Stein, former head of strategy for EmbraerX, has been appointed CEO of Eve.

More Than 400 Local Clubs Now Operating

The IMC/VMC Club concept, now part of the EAA's pilot proficiency resources, celebrates its 10th anniversary this month with sustained and substantial growth in recent years bringing flight safety scenarios to local pilots. More than 400 local clubs in communities throughout the country now provide and promote flying, proficiency, and safety. Those clubs meet monthly, allowing pilots to share information and resources, using their flying experiences as shared knowledge to enhance safety for all who fly.

About 1,500 Ft Mean Sea Level, The Engine Suddenly Lost All Power

On October 1, 2020, at 1125 eastern daylight time, an experimental Fokker DR1 airplane, N512FH, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Wake, Virginia. The pilot was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, prior to the flight he “topped off” the fuel tank adding about 6 gallons of fuel. He departed the Hummel Field Airport (W75), Saluda, Virginia, for a local flight at 1100. About 25 minutes after takeoff while in cruise flight, about 1,500 ft mean sea level, the engine suddenly lost all power.

AD 2020-21-11 Required Revising The Existing Maintenance Or Inspection Program

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2015-22-08, which applied to all Airbus SAS Model A318 series airplanes; Model A319-111, -112, -113, -114, -115, -131, -132, and -133 airplanes; and Model A320-211, -212, -214, -231, -232, and -233 airplanes. The FAA is also superseding AD 2018-17-19, which applied to certain Airbus SAS Model A318 series airplanes; Model A319-111, -112, -113, -114, -115, -131, -132, and -133 airplanes; Model A320-211, -212, -214, -216, -231, -232, -233, -251N, and -271N airplanes; and Model A321-111, -112, -131, -211, -212, -213, -231, -232, -251N, -253N, and -271N airplanes. AD 2020-21-14 Requires Replacing Certain Mlg Hinge Pins With Serviceable Parts

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all ATR–GIE Avions de Transport Régional Model ATR72 airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of main landing gear (MLG) hinge pins found cracked or thermally abused. This AD requires replacing certain MLG hinge pins with serviceable parts, or replacing an MLG equipped with any affected MLG hinge pin with an MLG equipped with serviceable MLG hinge pins, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective November 20, 2020.
