General media coverage of the tragedies surrounding Asian Flight 214 have not set any high notes -- as blunder after blunder, ridiculous hyperbole after ridiculous hyperbole, and know-nothing after know-nothing embarrass both general media reporting as well as the world of aviation  -- in a big way. BUT... one of the biggest blunders we've ever had to report on is destined to sit in the Hall of Fame for such goofs (if there is such a thing... and if there isn't, this might be a good reason to start one) long after any of us is LONG gone.

Alaska Airlines Pilots Ratify Five-Year Contract

Sixty-Seven Percent Of Pilots Casting Ballots Vote In Favor

Alaska Airlines pilots on Wednesday approved a new five-year contract. With nearly 94 percent of 1,343 eligible pilots casting a ballot, 67 percent voted in favor of the agreement. The contract increases pay by nearly 20 percent over the life of the agreement and contains job security and work rule improvements. It also protects pilots' retirement and insurance benefits.

First Royal Navy Aircrew Begin Training On Wildcat

New Helicopter Is 18 Months From Frontline Service

The U.K. Royal Navy's Five Fleet Air Arm pilots and observers are currently undergoing conversion training at the new Wildcat Training Center at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, with the helicopter – successor to the Lynx – just 18 months away from front line service. From the beginning of 2015, Wildcats will begin to relieve the Lynx as the mainstay of helicopter operations for all of the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers and some of its Type 23 frigates, as well as any other air missions the fleet requires of it.
