Rolls-Royce has won a $280 million order, at list prices, from Garuda Indonesia Airlines for Trent 700 engines to power four Airbus A330 aircraft. In addition, the airline confirmed a previous order for Trent 700 engines to power six A330s, which was announced last year. All ten aircraft will have long-term TotalCare service support.

Deutsche Lufthansa and CFM International announced the selection of the CFM56-5B to power four new Airbus A320 aircraft in a firm engine order valued at approximately $60 million (U.S.) at list price at the Dubai Air Show Monday. The aircraft order was announced in September of this year and the airline will take delivery in 2012 and 2013.

The U. S. DOT today fined American Eagle Airlines $900,000 for lengthy tarmac delays that took place at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on May 29, 2011. This is the first fine for a violation of the Department’s rule, which took effect in April 2010, setting a three-hour limit for tarmac delays on domestic flights.

A rented Piper Archer flown by U.K. businessman Ian Dickinson went down in the English Channel Saturday, resulting in the fatal injury of the 79-year-old pilot. Dickinson's wife Ann-Marie reportedly attempted to pull him from the sinking airplane, but was unsuccessful. She was picked up by a passing Russian cargo ship, and treated for exposure and hypothermia.

Both Companies See Plenty Of Opportunity In The Region

Both Airbus and Boeing have released their market forecasts for the Middle East at the opening of the Dubai Air Show, and both companies see reasons for optimism about airline growth in the region. Boeing projects that airlines in the Middle East will need an estimated 2,520 airplanes worth $450 billion by 2030. The forecast comes as the region's carriers continue to surpass global air traffic and capacity growth rates. Airbus said it expects the aircraft fleet to almost triple in the next 20 years.
