Source: Fateful words spoken by the pilot of a Marine Corps F/A-18D that crashed into a residential neighborhood near MCAS Miramar on December 8, 2008. Audio tapes of exchanges between the pilot and ATC, released Tuesday, show the unnamed airman passed up at least two chances to land at a facility with an approach over open water, after reporting engine failure. Four people were killed when the plane crashed two miles short of the runway.
