Two wrongful death lawsuits against Cirrus Design Corp. stemming
from a January 2003 accident have been kicked down to Itasca County
(MN) District Court, after Cirrus unsuccessfully petitioned for the
cases to be heard at the federal level.
"You've undermined the opportunity [that] honest politicians
have to do good." It was with that damning statement that US
District Court Judge Larry A. Burns ordered Randall "Duke"
Cunningham -- war hero, "Top Gun" instructor and, most recently,
disgraced former US congressman -- to eight years and four months
in a federal prison for bribery.
It appears Judge Allan Gropper's decision to
forestall ruling on Northwest's ability to reject its current
contract with its pilots -- in hopes the airline and
its pilots would come to an amicable solution -- paid off Friday,
as airline management reached a tentative deal with members of the
Air Line Pilots Association over a new contract that could save the
bankrupt airline $358 million annually.
"Unreasonable Concessionary Demands" Provoke Union
Resolution
Earlier this week -- the executive board of Teamsters Local 513
passed a resolution that lays the foundation for a possible strike
by 818 Comair Airlines flight attendants. Cincinnati-based Local
513 Executive Board members unanimously passed the resolution,
condemning what the union describes as the company's "unreasonable
concessionary demands."
Earlier this week, Sikorsky subsidiary Schweizer Aircraft
announced it received 37 helicopter orders at this year's Heli-Expo
trade show in Dallas, TX. The orders are the most ever received by
the company at the trade show.
In the slimmest of signs the airline may be at the beginning of
its recovery from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, for the first time in
recent memory Delta Air Lines reported losing less money in January
than during a comparable period one year ago.
Dallas Airmotive announced Friday the promotion of Mike Clarke
to the newly created position of Territorial Sales Director for
Scandinavia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Bolter
A carrier landing attempt in which the tailhook fails to engage
any of the arresting wires, requiring a "go-around", and in which
the aircraft landing gear contacts the deck.
