Construction Underway On FBO Terminal Building And Hangar
Construction crews have begun to pour concrete at Austin
Executive Airport (KEDC) for the airport's new FBO, terminal
building, and hangar. The 27,500-square-foot premier FBO terminal
building, and 29,000-square-foot hangar will also feature a
140-by-85-foot canopy, just another in a series of upgrades and
amenities pilots across the state will enjoy at Texas' newest
airport.

Opened as Bird's Nest Airport in 1968
with a 1,500 foot runway, the site was purchased in 2007 by
developer and pilot Ron Henriksen, who began the transformation
into a corporate and general aviation facility 12 miles northeast
of downtown Austin. Plans include a 6,025 foot runway along with
the new FBO Terminal building, ramp, fuel farm, and corporate
hangars which can accommodate aircraft as large as a Gulfstream
V.
The airport is expected to in the second quarter of 2011. A live

"Since purchasing the site in 2007, we have spent considerable
time listening to pilots, the aviation community and the citizens
of Austin to help us establish an airport unequalled in offering
pilots a much-needed alternative to other over-crowded facilities,"
said Henriksen. "This brings us much closer to realizing our goals
of a modern, first-class business aviation facility that will be a
direct benefit to both the aviation community as well as the Austin
area."
Andrew D. Perry, A.A.E, Vice President of Development for Austin
Executive Airport said the new reliever airport will also be an
economic draw for the Austin area and the state of Texas which has
been trying to restore general aviation capacity to the Austin area
for over a decade. "There is no question that there is a real need
for a general aviation facility in Central Texas ," said Perry.
"And we are looking forward to the economic boom such a facility
can have on the larger community and to our state." Perry
said he is actively seeking aircraft maintenance, avionic and paint
shops, along with other aviation businesses for the airport.
