Wathen Foundation Adds New Hangars To Flabob Airport

New Runway, New Taxiways, Now New Hangers

Since purchasing Flabob airport in 2000, the Thomas Wathen Foundation has initiated a number of upgrades and refinements to the airport.

They repaved the runway, paved a significant amount of taxiway, cleared brush, painted old buildings and torn down a number of other old buildings. In their place they have erected 12 new hangars, all with electric bifold doors. All new structures are designed to preserve the historic look of the airport.

Five of the hangars are 50' X 50' and the remaining seven are 42' X 40'. All twelve were spoken for before they were completed.

The expanding number of aircraft being based at Flabob has led to plans for constructing another five hangars.

In addition to improving the grounds and architecture of the airport, the Wathen Foundation has developed an extensive list and busy schedule for activities designed to attract young people to aviation. They also co-hosts several Open Houses in the course of a year, appealing to sport, vintage and general aviation pilots.
