Poll Finds Kids Want To Be Pilots

Career Choice High On The List For Children 6-12

An independent poll conducted in the U.K. finds that "pilot" is one of the top career choices for children, particularly boys in the 6-12 age range.

It was second only to "footballer" ... that would be a soccer player in the U.S.

The independent poll commissioned by British Airways ... an official partner for Disney's animated feature "Planes" ... queried 650 children between 6 and 12. It found that the highest number of kids who said "pilot" was their top career choice were in London and Wales.

The airline has renamed an aircraft ‘Bulldog’ after the British aircraft in the film, voiced by John Cleese. The film will be shown on board flights from September and "promises to be one of the most popular family films on board this year," according to the release.

“It’s great to see that working for an airline is as popular today as it ever was – ranking in the top five jobs for boys," said Abigail Comber, British Airways head of marketing. "However, with more female pilots at British Airways than ever before, we were surprised to see this wasn’t more popular with girls. Nonetheless, I’m sure Planes will help inspire the British Airways pilots and cabin crew of the future.”
