One Of A Kind, But What The Heck Is It?

Flying Contraption For Sale On eBay

ANN subscriber Corey Garden brought the following item to our attention. The problem is that we have no clue what the heck it is!

A flying contraption of sorts is for sale on eBay. The posting, claims the following:

"This New Patented Invention Will Change Flight As We Know It."

"It climbs straight up and will beat several world records. It is ready to sell or develop. Flight can be remote controlled or manned. Proposal to make official record breaking attempts for dirigibles"

  • Rate of climb
  • Rate of decent
  • Smallest cubic feet to reach a given altitude (class: under 100 cu ft to reach 400 ft. altitude)
  • Projected date of flights- spring of 2004 (subject to change)

"Windcrafter Inc proposes flying our 10-ft tall 68 cu. ft. of helium ship to 400 feet under full control. Only 20-ft long and larger remotely piloted airships (blimps) even fly outdoors, and only under perfect, no wind conditions and they require approximately a minute to get to 60-ft altitude. Our goal for this record is to get to 400-ft altitude in less than twenty seconds!"

"The flight will take place at a sanctioned model aircraft field. We are looking for co-sponsors for these record attempts. For your contribution, you will be allotted a space on the ship for your recognition. Contributions may include any services, equipment, or monies that assist in the record attempts. The first record attempts fit within the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) guidelines and no FAA approval will be necessary."

"The Carangifoil airship provides unparalleled surface area, maneuverability, and station keeping ability. The standard 10 foot (tall) Carangifoil advertising ship provides over three times the surface area of advertising potential (63+ sq. feet per side) compared to the standard cigar shaped 18 foot (long) blimp. We guarantee this is the only one in the world."

So, if you have any interest in this blimp-like device, go ahead and check it out on eBay. There must be someone out there who could appreciate something like this.
