King Schools Reminds UL Pilots It Can Help With Sport Pilot Transition

January 2007 Deadline Is Approaching Fast

Time is ticking down for ultralight pilots who wish to use their hours of experience in getting a sport-pilot license... and King Schools wants to remind those pilots that, well, they're here to help.

"If registered ultralight pilots can pass their FAA Sport Pilot Knowledge and Practical Tests before the end of January 2007, they will be given a big shortcut to being FAA certified Sport Pilots," says John King.

"I know a lot of folks are intimidated by the idea of taking a test, but we are in the business of making it easy," added King Schools co-chairman Martha King.

King Schools offers home study courses for the Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot Instructor Knowledge Tests and Practical Tests. The Knowledge Test Course is taken on your computer, which serves up video segments followed by actual questions from the FAA test. The computer keeps track of your progress and tells you when you will be ready for the actual FAA exam.

The Practical Test Course is also taken on your computer, and features a demonstration practical test on video. Rusty Sachs, Executive Director of the National Association of Flight Instructors and an actual FAA Sport Pilot Examiner, conducts a demonstration test providing the questions and tasks.

"Our goal is to make you confident you will pass your checkride because you've been through it with us before you take your own," said John King.

If you were registered as an Ultralight Pilot with EAA, ASC, or USUA before September 1, 2004, all you need to do to become a Sport Pilot is provide a copy of your training records, and pass your Knowledge and Practical tests before the end of January 2007.

If a pilot registers after that date, they will also need to meet the experience requirements and have a flight instructor endorsement for the knowledge and practical tests.

"This is a powerful incentive to get ready for and take the knowledge and practical tests before the end of January", said Martha King. "In fact, John and I just converted our EAA ultralight registrations for powered parachutes to Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot Instructor endorsements in order to beat the deadline ourselves."

King Schools is the official EAA supplier of Sport Pilot and Sport Pilot Instructor courses, and has been providing educational courses to pilots for over 30 years.
