Airborne-Unmanned 07.09.19: NUAIR-Flytrex, Airbus Delivers, Impossible Aerospace

Following tests completed by Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research (NUAIR) at the New York UAS Test Site in Rome, New York, Israel-based drone company Flytrex, has had the parachute on its package delivery drones validated as compliant with industry standards.

This is the second parachute standard validation performed by NUAIR. Currently, the FAA prohibits most drones from being flown directly over people. Professional drone operators can apply for a waiver from that restriction if they can demonstrate they have robust safety mitigations in place including having a validated parachute. Airbus and the Hauts-de-France region have signed a partnership agreement to assess the economic development potential of air deliveries on a regional scale. The Hauts-de-France region aims to become Europe’s logistics hub. Regional authorities are particularly supporting the creation of the ‘e-valley’ park, a logistics park dedicated to new e-commerce services, on the site of the former Cambrai airbase. For this activity, air delivery is an innovative development focus. US-1 unmanned aircraft from aero-tech firm, Impossible Aerospace, made another public demonstration on Friday June 28th -- this time at a four-alarm construction site fire burning only minutes away from the company's Santa Clara headquarters. Equipped with thermal and optical sensors, the aircraft hovered on station for one hour and six minutes before the fire was extinguished. The US-1 delivered high-def thermal video to ground crews, allowing them to identify hot spots to share with first responders. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
