Hairline Fracture Found In Fuselage Of China Airlines 737

Cause Yet To Be Determined

This one made us shudder... and it has nothing to do with snakes on a plane. A China Airlines maintenance crew reportedly discovered a 28-inch crack in the fuselage of a Boeing 737-800 last week.

The fracture was discovered last week, after a China Airlines flight landed at Saga Airport. The hairline crack was discovered during a routine postflight inspection, reports the Seattle Times.

China Airlines is understandably jumpy about potential problems with its 737s, following the August 20 explosion of another 737-800 in Okinawa.

As ANN reported, all of the 165 people onboard that plane were able to evacuate the plane before the fireball -- later traced to a pierced fuel tank, caused by a loose wing slat bolt -- consumed the aircraft.

Following discovery of the fuselage crack last week, the airline sent another 737 to pick up the 49 passengers, and carry them onto their destination.

The cause of the crack has not yet been determined.
