Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro Available For Windows 8 Devices

Delta Air Lines First To Implement Across Its Fleet

Jeppesen has introduced its FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB) solution for Microsoft Windows 8 tablets. Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro helps streamline the use of navigational information for airlines, fractional business jet operators and military fleet programs. Delta Air Lines is equipping 11,000 pilots with FliteDeck Pro on Surface 2 tablets across its fleet to increase operational efficiency.

“Airlines and other large-scale operators now have a new choice for delivery of Jeppesen’s mobile EFB solutions, with the introduction of FliteDeck Pro for the Windows 8 operating system,” said Thomas Wede, Jeppesen president. “We congratulate Delta Air Lines for integrating FliteDeck Pro on Surface 2 tablets to reduce pilot workload, increase efficiency and reduce operating costs.”

Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro enables significant weight savings with reduced fuel consumption through the removal of paper content from the operation. Improved safety margins are also achieved through increased situational awareness. Jeppesen customers can choose from a full range of portable, secured, and installed EFB configurations, all centrally managed by the global Jeppesen Distribution Manager Pro (JDM Pro) secure network.

Flight information, including worldwide navigation charts is delivered to Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro through the JDM Pro enterprise solution. This scalable data management solution distributes encrypted operational data and documents efficiently across a Web-based system, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of current navigational and operational information to pilots and other users. In addition, JDM Pro is designed to work in concert with Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems for end-to-end control of EFB content and devices.

“Pilots will now be able to open two applications side-by-side on screen to access critical flight information such as text and enroute charts in a split view, with Windows 8,” said Tracy Issel, general manager for retail, consumer goods, hospitality and travel at Microsoft. “The full HD 1080p Surface tablet provides seamless delivery of real-time flight data from Jeppesen in all lighting conditions, and pilots can configure their tablet to provide the right information at the right time.”

In addition to highly compressed Jeppesen terminal charts, FliteDeck Pro includes data-driven enroute content, which is dynamically rendered and de-cluttered for the pilot’s task at hand. Information for all enroute charted features is immediately available, including communication information, operational notes and runway details for destination or alternate airports.

Full Jeppesen content is resident on the device, which eliminates the need for online connectivity while in the air. Database updates are intelligent, involving “changes only” content replacement, which drastically reduces database update times. Transitioning from paper to digital EFB materials eliminates bulky 40-50 lb. pilot flight bags from each flight, resulting in significant fleet-wide weight savings and reduced fuel consumption for improved financial results.
