Lancair Team To Compete At US Air Race Nationals

Entry Deadlines Approaching

Rob Logan and Mike Mahar of Cleveland (OH) will race Tweety Bird in the upcoming US Air Race national competition. Named for its brilliant yellow color, the Lancair Legacy 2000's speed will be equalized making the race a test of pilot skills. Rob and Mike will join in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of cross country air racing.

What does it take to enter? As long as your plane is FAA Airworthy with a current annual and insurance of $1,000,000, you can race with us and win trophies, cash, prizes and the all important bragging rights. You get to have a great excuse to go flying, help promote a positive view of general aviation, see new parts of the country and make great flying friends.

Some folks don't realize that the US Air Race also offers an Air Cruise on the same dates and route as the race. This Air Cruise option is a chance to fly where the ground arrangements and team gatherings are handled by the US Air Race and the flying is up to you at whatever power setting you normally use.

Deadlines for entry are approaching:

  • California 300 Air Race dates Aug 29-31
Entry Due Date for inclusion in bound program June 30
    Entry Deadline Aug 21

"Honor the Past. Invest in the Future" is the theme for the US Air Race, Inc. celebration of the sparkling 75th Diamond Anniversary of the 1929 National Air Races. The teams in the exciting cross country Marion Jayne Air Race and Cruise will fly from California to Cleveland. There will be a California 300-mile and a Cleveland 300-mile Air Race.. Awards will be made at the Cleveland National Air Show. These flying events will be held from August 28 to September 6, 2004. Participants will have the opportunity to fly in honor of a 1929 racer and/or dedicate an aviation youth scholarship at one of the route stops.

As in 2003, teams may compete in cruise, speed and collegiate divisions. Custom divisions are possible for five or more teams such as all RVs, all Tigers or all Cirrus. All teams are eligible for the prestigious Marion Jayne Perpetual Trophy.
