New And Returning Board Members

Returning Board Member: G. Edward Newton, Jr.

G. Edward Newton, Jr. will continue to represent the Corporate Sector on the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Board of Directors. Newton is currently Chief Pilot of Helicopter Operations and Manager of Safety, Standards, Training & Special Projects with Honeywell Corporation.

Newton currently performs the duties of Chief Pilot, Rotary Wing and J-41 and has the responsibility of supervising seven pilots, scheduling, ensuring the safe operation of the aircraft, developing the budget, and is the operational liaison for the Viper Express partnership between Honeywell and American Home Products.

He has 31 years of professional aviation experience in corporate, commercial and military flight operations, with type ratings in rotary-wing and fixed-wing. He has experience in aircraft maintenance operations as well.

Newton has over 10,000 flight hours in helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft with no accidents or violations. His maintenance experience includes maintenance coordinator for corporate helicopter operations at Interpace Corporation, including scheduling and supervising maintenance on company helicopters, liaison duties with the maintenance department and flight operations department at Keystone Helicopter Corporation for nine helicopters. He was also aircraft maintenance and Q.C. Officer and test pilot for Assault Helicopter Company in Vietnam.

He is a Member of the GBS Malcolm Baldrige Assessment Team, received the Ace Award for interface with Engines, he was the TQM Team Leader for Allied Signal Aviation Hanger Security Audit, and he performed acceptance test flights on 4 S- 76 helicopters.

Newton currently serves on HAl's Board of Directors as Assistant Treasurer of HAl, is a Member of the HAl Manufacturers Committee, and Board Liaison for the HAl Technical Committee. HAI is pleased to have Newton's continued leadership on the Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2004.

New Board Member: Patrick Corr

Patrick Corr will represent the Commercial Sector on the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Board of Directors. Corr has been a commercial helicopter pilot since 1986 and is currently the CEO of Helicopter Adventures, Inc., a training school located in central Florida.

He established Helicopter Adventures with one helicopter in 1987. In 1993, Helicopter Adventures was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. During the 1990s, Corr rallied local and national civic groups, pilot organizations, and professional associations to overcome opposition from a group of anti-airport campaigners and an influential local politician (nationally known for her defeat of the proposed California peripheral canal) who on two occasions, attempted to introduce legislation that would have effectively banned helicopter training at the county-owned airports. Corr's efforts helped to defeat these measures.

In response to the creation of the Europe-Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) and Joint Aviation Requirements (JAR) Flight Crew Licensing (JAR-FCL), Helicopter Adventures successfully applied for approval as a JAA commercial helicopter pilot school, necessitating the establishment of an elaborate training program that includes a syllabus of flight and ground training of nearly 1,000 hours. The school now operates both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and JAA training programs side by side. Helicopter Adventures operates 22 helicopters at its base in Florida, eight helicopters in Concord, California, and leases two helicopters to other operators. Corr served six years as a commissioned officer in the Irish Army, working primarily in a counter-terrorist role.

As a Member of HAl for the past 15 years, Corr has served on both the HAl Economics and Human Resources Committees for several years. He is active in local civic organizations and is an occasional contributor to aviation publications. HAI welcomes Corr and awaits the beginning of his term on the Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2004.

New Board Member: J. Steve Sabree

J. Steve Sabree will represent the Corporate Sector on the Helicopter Association International (HAI) Board of Directors. Sabree is currently General Manager of Corporate Aviation Services for Chevron-Texaco Corporation.

Sabree is responsible for the corporate executive Aircraft fleet and provides consulting services and safety guidance for the company's worldwide aviation activities. Sabree began his career with Chevron in 1978 as a helicopter pilot for Chevron offshore operations in New Orleans, Louisiana. He progressed through a number of aviation assignments of increasing responsibility, and in 1995 was named manager of aircraft operations for New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico. After the Chevron/Texaco merger in 2001, he was named General Manager of Aviation Services for ChevronTexaco Corporation, based in Oakland, California.

A native of Covington, Kentucky, Sabree served with the US Army from 1969 to 1973 as a helicopter pilot, completing two combat tours in Vietnam. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, he holds a bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance management and is a certified airframe and powerplant mechanic. He also holds an airline transport pilot rating, and is qualified in helicopters as well as multi-engine airplanes.

Sabree serves as a member of the HAl Offshore Committee. He is also a member of NBAA, the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers, and the Flight Safety Foundation. HAI welcomes Sabree and awaits the beginning of his term on the Board of Directors, effective July 1, 2004.
