DOT Bureau of Transportation Statistics issues list of new
reporting groups
The US Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transport
Statistics has updated its reporting groups for the calendar year
2005, and overall five airlines have been upgraded.
Jet Blue Airways, an
all-coach airline operating A320's in the US and the Caribbean has
been upgraded to the Major Airline list. Comair, a subsidiary of
Delta Airlines which operates as Delta Connection, has also been
upgraded to Major Airline status. This status is attained by
airlines after they break the $1 billion revenue milestone.
Sun Country Airlines
and USA 3000 have been upgraded to National Airline status, with
reported revenues of $100 million to $1 billion. Sky King Airlines
has also been upgraded to Large Regional Airline status after
reporting revenues of over $20 million.
Carriers are grouped according to the operating revenue
boundaries. The current reporting levels are:
Group 3 (Majors) Over $1 billion
Group 2 (Nationals) Over $100 million to $1 billion
Group 1 (Regionals) $100 million and under
Subgroups
Group 1 (Large Regionals) $20 million to $100 million
Group 1 (Medium Regionals) Under $20 million
The changes in the reporting groups will become effective
January 1, 2005. The airlines in all the groups are listed below in
alphabetical order.
