Two More Survivors Found After Peru Crash

Search Continues

As recovery teams in Peru continued the grim task of trying to account for all those aboard a Peruvian 737 that went down in a swamp less than two miles from its destination, the number of survivors went up by two Wednesday. That brings to 59 the number of passengers who were able to get out of the wreckage alive.

As ANN reported in real time on Tuesday, the TANS 737-200 went down in heavy weather as the flight crew tried to land. The aircraft broke in two with the forward section catching fire.

"The survivors were seated in the back of the plane," police officer Johnny Luna told Reuters. "They managed to get out and wade through the swamp to the nearest road."

So far, 16 of the 41 bodies had been identified, according to authorities.

Local reports indicated both pilots were lost in the mishap.

TANS said its flights continued normally on Wednesday.
