Displays Serve As Upgrades For Honeywell CRT-Based
Displays
Avionics display specialist Barco told ANN late Monday the
company was selected to supply LCD-based multi-function cockpit
displays with an open architecture for Honeywell Aerospace.
The displays will serve as upgrades for CRT-based displays used
with Honeywell's Primus 1000, 2000, 2000XP, SPZ-8400, 8500 and
SPZ-8000 avionics systems.
"We believe Barco's display
technology will allow us to integrate our latest avionics
applications while offering growth capabilities for future
communication, navigation, surveillance and Air Traffic Management
functionality," said Chad Cundiff Vice President Marketing and
Product Management, Honeywell Aerospace
"We are pleased to be able to add this new, important chapter to
our relationship with Honeywell," stated Yves Vanhauwaert, General
Manager of Barco's Avionics division. "With a market potential of
approximately 5000 aircraft, this agreement marks a major landmark
for Barco in the civil aviation market place," he adds.
For this project, Barco develops two types of DO-178B and DO-254
level A compliant displays that are backwards compatible with
Honeywell's legacy CRT units to ensure quick and easy replacement.
Integrating Barco's proven avionics building blocks, the retrofit
displays will provide pilots with the same performance and
flexibility as the most sophisticated cockpits in operation today.
The displays' modular open architecture (MOSArt) creates a flexible
host platform for Honeywell's latest, state-of-the-art
applications, including electronic charts, maps, weather and video
display capabilities.
First prototype of the new retrofit displays will be
demonstrated at the NBAA Annual Meeting and Convention, booth
2320.
