Will Be Operated In Asia
Sikorsky Aircraft signed a contract this week to provide
Washington Times Aviation with two S-92 helicopters for airline
use. The aircraft are expected to be delivered in 2008 and 2009,
and will operate in Asia.
This will be the fifth and sixth S-92 helicopter purchases
within the last three years for Washington Times Aviation. Many of
these aircraft will be used for "mass passenger transportation" in
Korea, and will be housed in a hangar at the Kimpo Aerospace
Industrial Complex.
Times Aerospace Korea, a subsidiary of Washington Times
Aviation, will operate S-92 and S-61 aircraft at this
multi-functional facility. Other activities planned between Times
Aerospace Korea, LLC and Sikorsky at this facility include the
operation of an S-76 helicopter customer service center, and a
comprehensive S-61 modernization and overhaul center.
"Washington Times Aviation was one of the early launch customers
of the S-92 helicopter," said Sikorsky President Jeffrey Pino.
"This signing speaks volumes that this customer has now ordered a
total of six S-92 helicopters and has plans for even more. Sikorsky
is proud to continue this successful relationship and looks forward
to a healthy future providing this proven aircraft for missions in
the Asia region."
Douglas Joo, chairman of the Washington Times Corp., said his
company carefully considered the options available in the
marketplace before choosing Sikorsky.
"After a thorough review of modern helicopters for our airline
mission, there was only one choice: the S-92 helicopter. Our VIP
S-92 helicopter in Korea flies almost everyday, with outstanding
dispatch reliability," Joo said.
