Brings JT8Ds Into Compliance With Stage 4 Requirements
Aviation Fleet Solutions (AFS) tells ANN the company recently
completed the sale and installation of its QuietEagle Noise
Reduction System on SG Air Leasing Limited's VIP MD-87. The
Singapore-based aircraft leasing company selected the QuietEagle
Noise Reduction System as the product to bring its VIP MD-87 into
compliance with FAA Stage 4 and ICAO Chapter 4 noise
requirements.
"We feel very strongly that the QuietEagle is the right solution
for the MD-80 fleet of aircraft," said John Walter, SG Air Leasing
Limited’s Project Manager for the VIP MD-87. "It is clear to
us that P&W fully supports this product which is absolutely
critical."
"This is our second installation on a VIP MD-87," said AFS
Operations and Customer Support Manager, Bob Babbitt. "The
QuietEagle components were designed for ease of installation. Our
installation experience confirms this design objective."
"We are very pleased that SG Air Leasing Limited selected our
product. In fact, we just received confirmation that they will now
incorporate the QuietEagle into a second VIP MD-87. We are quickly
becoming the preferred Stage 4 and Chapter 4 solution for the MD-80
aircraft," said Kevin Bartelson, President of AFS.
As ANN reported, QuietEagle
includes a 16-lobe internal mixer, a muffler, a tabbed nozzle and
an improved front fan case. The new technology hardware replaces
the original hardware and is seamlessly integrated into the P&W
JT8D-200 engine. The QuietEagle is transparent to the engine
maintaining thrust performance and operability levels.
"The inclusion of the new fan case liner is a fringe benefit of
the QuietEagle System," said Kim Sullivan, JT8D Program Manager
with Pratt & Whitney. "It provides for reduced noise levels and
improved blade out containment performance, a characteristic we
would like to see incorporated into all our JT8D-200 series
engines."
The QuietEagle System is comprised of Pratt & Whitney
technology that has been licensed to AFS for the MD-80. It exceeds
all the requirements of FAR Part 36 Stage 4 and ICAO Annex 16
Chapter 4 noise standards, which became effective January 1,
2006.
Airlines can purchase the QuietEagle system separately from
Aviation Fleet Solutions, or as part of JT8D-200 service contracts
through Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners.
The JT8D is one of the most ubiquitous engines in commercial
aviation with 8,000 in service and more than 2,100 powering MD-80
aircraft.
