Runway Overrun Closes Luton Airport

Flight Schedules Affected

A Cessna Citation slid off a runway in England Wednesday night... and passengers trying to get in and out of the airport at Luton were warned they might face delays Thursday morning.

Luton Today reports airport managers told passengers to check with their airlines after a private Cessna Citation overshot the runway, and slid off the end Wednesday evening.

Fire and rescue crews responded to Luton Airport, located 30 miles north of London, when the Cessna experienced what the UK's Press Association called a "hydraulic failure."

Although authorities reported no injuries, they made the decision to cancel all flights overnight... which prompted the recommendations to check airline schedules. As of Thursday evening, the airport had resumed normal operations.

The airport is a hub for such carriers as British Airways, Easyjet, and Irish low-cost-carrier Ryanair -- which apologized to its inconvenienced passengers, and offered to refund or rebook their tickets.

It’s unknown at this time where the Citation was from... or exactly what hydraulic component failed, causing the runway overshoot.
