Moller SkyCar Auction: No Takers

e-Bay Auction Imitates Life

With an opening bid of half a million dollars, and a (refundable) bid fee of five grand, at least Moller didn't fall into the trap that embarrassed last month's SoloTrek sellers on e-Bay.

The only thing that was embarrassing to Moller, was that no one in the computer-literate world wanted to buy the SkyCar prototype during its just-ended online auction.

This machine, the subject of countless magazine articles and television coverage (and yes, some hype), has not turned into cash, as Moller tries to go to the next step in his quest to produce a similar vectored-thrust vehicle, with the computer wizardry to make it operate nearly like the family car -- except, it would operate in three dimensions instead of two.

If you've missed the auction, but have $9.50, there's a 1/38 scale die cast model of the machine available.
