What Goes Up (Eventually) Comes Down

California Tower-Jumper Snagged, Rescued -- May Face Charges

A Walnut Creek, CA, skydiver is hospitalized after his chute became tangled in the tower from which he was jumping. The birthday stunt-gone-wrong left John Agnos dangling by his risers for hours as firefighters tried to figure out how to rescue him.

Police said Agnos climbed the KOVR television tower Thursday night to "BASE-jump" as a birthday present to himself. About 200 feet from the ground, his canopy became ensnared on the tower structure, leaving him dangling for hours.

Worse, his arms appeared to have been broken in the mishap. Still, Agnos was able to use his cell phone to contact emergency responders. But the problems didn't end there.

The tallest firefighting ladder was only 175 feet in length. So a firefighter climbed up the ladder, then shimmied up the guy wire to the stranded adventurer.

Agnos was lowered to the ground in a rescue harness and taken to a hospital late Friday evening.

But the problems may not have ended there, either. Agnos could face criminal charges for his failed jump. Happy birthday, John.
