More Power! Gill Battery's 7638-44 VRLA Available For Aircraft Owners

Company Claims 24-Month Shelf Life, More Juice

Owners of several piston and turbine powered aircraft can now expect more from their battery thanks to Gill Battery’s new 7638-44 sealed, valve regulated lead acid (VRLA), 44 AH 24 volt battery.

"The 7638-44 represents the pinnacle in lead acid battery technology and construction," said Mike Shaw, Vice President, Teledyne Continental Motors Battery Products.

Shaw told ANN the new battery will deliver more power and significantly better shelf life than traditional VRLA batteries. Developed in-house by the engineering team at Gill Battery, a subsidiary of Teledyne Technologies, Inc. and thoroughly tested by an independent test and measurement firm, the 7638-44 employs an optimal Lead alloy to enable the best possible performance in this chemistry.

The 7638-44 is also FAA and PMA certified. The benefit to aircraft owners and maintenance facilities is a new sealed, VRLA battery that provides exceptional power and previously unheard of shelf life as well as excellent durability and reliability.

"One of the most remarkable attributes of the 7638-44 battery is its shelf life," Shaw said. "This battery will hold its charge for up to 24 months sitting on the shelf and they are easily rechargeable beyond that timeframe. There is no more need to recharge a sealed battery every 90 days just to keep it alive. This battery sets a new standard for ease of use and maintenance."

The 7638-44 battery represents a move forward for the company’s entire sealed battery product line. "Because of its chemistry and production process, the 7638-44 is more powerful, more durable, more reliable and lighter weight than most VRLA batteries on the market today," Shaw said.

The 7638-44 will be produced at Gill’s Redlands, CA facility, which has undergone an extensive retooling in recent years to reduce variation, enhance product reliability and improve productivity.

The company has spent significant resources on new production equipment and upgraded processes to create a state-of-the-art production environment. These efforts were recently recognized with an AS 9100 quality certification and a 2006 WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) Award from the State of California.

The new 7638-44 will be available through all Gill Batteries distributors beginning mid-March. Aircraft owners may also go to the company's website, and use the "Configurator" to determine which Gill model is correct for their aircraft.
