Garmin Expands Global Coverage With New Avionics Validations

Europe, Canada, Brazil Approve Software Enhancements For GTN 750

Garmin has received several new international validations including approval in Europe for the King Air 300/350 G1000 upgrade as well as the more recent software enhancements for the GTN 750 and 650 series in Europe, Canada, and Brazil.

Specifically, Garmin has received EASA validation of the U.S. STC (supplemental type certificate) for the installation of the G1000 avionics suite in the King Air 300/350 models. This new approval adds to the existing validations from both Brazil and Canada, and adds to the King Air 200/B200 U.S. STC validations in Europe, Canada, and Brazil.

The installation of the G1000 system dramatically modernizes the King Air’s panel and meets current European regulatory requirements including 8.33 kHz VHF Communication, VHF Com Immunity from FM radio broadcasts, B-RNAV, P-RNAV, APV/SBAS, RVSM, SSR Mode S Elementary Surveillance (ELS), SSR Mode S Enhanced Surveillance (EHS), ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast), and TAWS Class A or Class B. Additionally, this validation allows pilots to fly with the best-in-class GFC 700 autopilot as standard equipment. The King Air 300/350 STC also includes approval for Garmin’s synthetic vision technology (SVT) that presents a 3D depiction of terrain, obstacle, traffic and the runway environment on the G1000’s primary flight display. Other popular options include global connectivity (worldwide weather, voice, and text messaging), as well as TAS and TCAS traffic systems, and more. The entire upgrade has the potential to increase the useful load by approximately 250 pounds.

Also in Europe, Garmin is working with EASA to validate the U.S. STC for the GTN series v4.1 software, which builds on the popular features from v3.0 including display support for an optional weather radar, optional global connectivity, including worldwide weather, 3D audio, GNS 530W/430W cross fill, and the ability to toggle on and off the depiction of certain European airspace. Version 4.1 software also adds new features for helicopters like high resolution 2.5 arc second terrain data for HTAWS, as well as support for metric fuel units. Combining the latest in multi-function display (MFD) features with touchscreen data entry and integrated radio tuning – as well as an optional remote transponder– the GTN series offers amazing, simple-to-use, technology.

Similarly in Canada, Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) has also validated the STC for GTN series v4.1 software, and in Brazil, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) has validated the U.S. STC for the GTN series v3.0 software.

Garmin is also working with EASA on an AML minor change approval for the GTR and GNC series of VHF radios that will provide airworthiness approval for hundreds of makes and models of aircraft. This broad approval will help reduce the cost of installation on these radios.
