EAA-Restored Piper J-3C-90 Cub Headed To Virginia

Congratulations are in order for the lucky raffle winner, Bob Cowgill (EAA# 607430) on winning the 1946 Piper J-3C-90 Cub restored by EAA’s Clark Ellis (EAA# 607430), and our consolation to the holders of the 2,999 other tickets that missed out in snagging the Cub. During the 2022 EAA AirVenture, the EAA Aviation Foundation held a raffle to raise money for the EAA’s aviation programs. It’s mission is four-fold; “to educate, engage, empower, and inspire the aviators and enthusiasts of tomorrow”.

OneWeb, the ill-fated London-based satellite communications company, has taken a $230-million hit in the wake of Russia’s cancellation of its planned orbital launches and seizure of 36 of its satellites. The pilfered satellites were to have departed the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Roscosmos Soyuz-2.1b rocket in March of 2022.

Avidyne OS Version 10.3 Now Available For FMS Suite

Avidyne recently announced the release of version 10.3 of its Avidyne Operating System for its suite of Flight Management Systems which includes the increasingly popular IFD400 and IFD500 series common to general aviation aircraft as well as the (not so common to GA) flavors of FMS such as ATLAS for turbine aircraft, and HELIOS for Corporate, Military and Special Mission Helicopters.

G100UL Availability and Distribution Uncertain

NBAA President Ed Bolen has welcomed the FAA’s issuance of a supplemental type certificate (STC) allowing use of a new unleaded fuel, G100UL, in piston-engine aircraft. The development of G100UL entailed 12-years of research and testing. Type certification validates the resources and effort invested over those years and denotes the FAA’s determination that engines and aircraft operating on G100UL will remain compliant with the airworthiness safety standard requirements of Part 23 and Part 33 for airplanes and engines respectively.

6th Workshop on Changing Demands of Vertical, Sustainable, and Autonomous Flight open for Registration

The Vertical Flight Society is putting the finishing touches on its upcoming Advance Air Mobility Infrastructure Workshop, held from September 20 to 22 in Dayton Ohio. The event will focus on recent developments surrounding eVTOL support structures in particular. Rex Alexander, the Society's Infrastructure Advisor, said that they would focus on a few recent publications driving the direction of the AAM industry.
